The Bumps have been gently toiling to form an Atlantic worker-owned video game studio that follows co-operative principles. As a professional for-profit studio we craft games, interactive experiences and services that inspire positive change.
What is a workers co-op? Click here to find out more.
Essential to our identity as a co-op are our values:
- We foster curiosity, collaboration, inclusion, and accountability.
- We sponsor, mentor and educate people entering the industry through dedicated work experience opportunities.
- We aim to address the social, environmental AND financial needs of our workers / players / communities.
- We are responsible for preventing and transforming harmful practices in the game industry (crunch, mass layoffs, gender / sexuality / race / class / disability discrimination, sexual assault etc).
Origins
It all began with an excited conversation at Game Dev Atlantic 2024 in the unceded ancestral lands of the Mi'kmaq (Nova Scotia, Canada).
Two humans, let's call them Kai and Sherri, 'bumped' into one other, and instantly connected around their enthusiasm for equitable worker-centric businesses, continuous learning, and spreading radical kindness.
(It didn't hurt that they both love games and cats too!)
What next?
The Bumps are still assembling, and we're actively looking to collaborate with folks who are as passionate about doing game dev differently as we are!
